  Gator 4x6 will not start

I am trying to fix a 4x6 gator. It was last running when it got stuck in deep snow and I do not know the exact conditions of use or abuse that led to the current issue, but they are most likely related.

I am not familiar with gators, but am a savvy mechanic and trying to help a friend out.

-Battery is fully charged.
-Headlights and bed lifting work fine.
-Starter turns when its posts are jumped, although it seems it is not engaging with the flywheel.
-Machine is in neutral.

Problem:
-> When the key is turned to start, nothing happens but a slight clicking noise in a relay somewhere. Do these things have a neutral safety switch somewhere? Could that have gotten burned up, torn up, or come loose when someone was going between R and F trying to get loose in deep snow?

Is there anything else I should look at?

  Gator 4x6 will not start

Thank you for the quick help! I really appreciate it.

I will try the simple and obvious first, but I do not remember hearing the fuel pump when we put the key to run. So, after hearing all of that it makes me think it could be something other than the neutral safety switch, like a loose ground. Is the fuel pump very loud?

Also, will the red wire that comes from the solenoid also activate something to engage the starter motor gear to the flywheel when it goes hot? Jumping the starter posts directly made it spin, but it did not turn the engine - even when holding the key to start while manually jumping the starter with a screwdriver.

I hope all of that makes sense.
